Malia Maxwell is a writer from Seattle, WA. Her poems appear or are forthcoming in The Kenyon Review, Beloit Poetry Journal, Poetry Northwest, Black Warrior Review, No Tokens, Frozen Sea, takahē magazine, and elsewhere. Her writing has been supported by scholarships and fellowships from Bread Loaf Environmental and the Vermont Studio Center.

She holds an MFA in Poetry from the Helen Zell Writers’ Program—where she won the 2025 Michael R. Gutterman Award in Poetry and a 2024 Hopwood Graduate Poetry Award—and a BA, Honors in English Literature from Stanford University.

Drawing upon her mixed European and Kanaka Maoli ancestry, much of her work focuses on family and place. In addition to writing, Malia serves as an Editorial Assistant for Poetry Northwest and an Assistant Editor for Michigan Quarterly Review.
